Saving from anywhere

Save from your phone's Share menu, a browser extension, or a bookmarklet. Everything you save lands in your Queue.

On Android

Open Lectern in Chrome, sign in, then open the ⋮ menu and choose Install app (or Add to Home screen). From then on, tap Share on any link, in any app, and choose Lectern.

On iPhone and iPad

Apple doesn't let web apps into the Share menu, so use a Shortcut instead: Settings → Saving in Lectern walks you through making one called Save to Lectern, with your address filled in. The bookmarklet below works in Safari too.

Bookmarklet

Settings → Saving has a Save to Lectern bookmarklet. Drag it to your bookmarks bar, or, in Safari on iPhone, bookmark any page and replace the bookmark's address with the bookmarklet's code. Click it on any page to save that page.

When a save comes from another website rather than from you, Lectern asks before saving it, so a page can't quietly add things to your Queue.

Browser extension

The extension saves the page you're on with one click. It sends the page as your browser shows it, so articles behind a login you have come through whole.

Install

The extension isn't in the browser stores yet, so you load it from Lectern's source, in the extension/src folder.

  • Chrome, Edge, Brave: open chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode, choose Load unpacked, and pick extension/src.
  • Firefox: open about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox, choose Load Temporary Add-on, and pick extension/src/manifest.json. Firefox removes temporary add-ons when it restarts.

Connect it to Lectern

The extension opens its settings when you install it.

  1. In Lectern, go to Settings → API token and choose Generate token. Copy it; it's shown once.
  2. In the extension's settings, enter https://lectern.segredo.dev and the token, then Save and connect.

It confirms who you're connected as. The token stays in that browser.

Save

  • Click the toolbar button, or press Alt+Shift+S: the page is saved, and you can add tags or open it in Lectern.
  • Right-click a link → Save link to Lectern: saves it without opening it.
  • Right-click a page → Save page to Lectern: a ✓ on the icon confirms.

The extension reads a page only when you click. It needs no access to the sites you visit.
